What does it mean to connect? Not through your computer or through a letter, but to stare into someones eyes, not say a word and give yourself over to instinctual feelings. This is what performance artist Marina Abramovic challenges people to do in this unique film. Shot back in April of 2010 at MOMA (Museum Of Modern Art) and directed by award winning documentarian Matthew Akers, this documentary chronicles Marina’s journey into the ultimate form of human connection. No stranger to performance art Marina Abramovic has been pushing the boundaries of human interactions since the seventies and has gained critical acclaim for many of her installments. This latest endeavor is quite a stretch even for the most introspective of artist. There’s a level of vulnerability when you stare into someones eyes for minutes or hours. Having done it once or twice in acting classes there’s nowhere to go with that emotion, no looking away or reaching for the cell or watching television. It’s raw and very intense and most would be surprised at their level of understanding or resistance in such an exercise. I’m very curious about this film and I hope you will be too.
